My name is Rod Swartz and I am running to fill the vacated seat on the Middle Village CDD (Phase 2-West of Brannan Field Road) which our long-time friend Craig Stoops had previously held before being redeployed to Peru.
Why I'm Running: Like many of us, our family moved to OakLeaf from somewhere else almost 8 years ago (Ohio in our case). My wife, Kate, and our two sons, both of which are now in high school (how time flies!) loved the mixture of nature and access to amenities, great schools, and the instant sense of community that is OakLeaf. Coming from military families, we both saw first-hand the expectation of serving. Knowing that great communities come from involvement in them, Kate and I volunteered regularly as sport coaches, Cub and then Boy Scout leaders, at our church (Elevate Life Church), and now as Kate is the OakLeaf Orcas and OakLeaf High School Knights swim coach.
Background: I was urged by residents to serve on the Double Branch/Phase 1 CDD from 2008-2012 during a very trying time in our community when the economy was at its worst. Even still, during those challenges I worked hard to restrain any increases in assessments while personally working to urge my fellow Board members to build with remaining funds (which came in under budget and on time) the Phase 1 Fitness Center that we all get to enjoy today. My experience as a business owner having employed hundreds of people, balancing budgets, and solving problems for over 20 years combined with my recently earning a Masters of Business Administration from Saint Leo University should assure the voters I will bring to the Board an understanding of how to work together with the other Board members to ensure OakLeaf is a desired location resulting in growing property values, stable if not declining annual assessments, and pride in our community.
Endorsements: I have been humbled to receive recommendations from several recognized leaders in the community as you can see below.
Please make sure to turn in your ballot via mail on or before Nov 4 or by dropping it off at our community's early voting place at the Eagle Landing location from Sat Oct 25-Sat Nov 1. Election day is Tuesday 4 November at OakLeaf Baptist Church from 7a-7pm
